Hand-dipped in local Skåne beeswax & garden-grown herbs
Inspired by an old European tradition, mullein torches were made from the dried flowering stalks of the mullein plant, dipped in fat or wax and burned as a source of light. Historical accounts connect them with everyday illumination as well as funerals, ceremonies and folk traditions, while mullein itself has long carried associations with light, protection and ritual.
This version is handmade from fully dried mullein flower stalks, repeatedly dipped in 100% locally sourced beeswax from Skåne and finished with seasonal herbs and flowers grown in my own garden. Depending on the season, these may include lavender, chamomile, rose, mullein flowers and leaves, sage and yarrow.
Even without being lit, they have a beautiful natural scent from the warm, honey-like beeswax and dried herbs.
Length: 15 cm
Today, they can be used as a small seasonal ritual during the darker months, bringing together fire, herbs and scent. Light the tip until the beeswax begins to melt and the dried plant material catches, then blow out the flame and allow the torch to smoulder gently, more like botanical incense than a conventional candle. Relight whenever you wish to continue.
Each torch is made by hand and naturally unique, with variations in shape, herbs and flowers.
Important: A mullein torch is not a conventional candle. Never leave it burning or smouldering unattended. Always use it in or above a suitable fireproof holder or bowl, keep it away from flammable materials, children and pets, and make sure it is completely extinguished after use.
Note: As each mullein stalk grows naturally, size and shape will vary. Small and Large refer to approximate overall length.
